Does Romney Really Want to Win?

It’s true that Ryan is beloved of the right-wingiest of the right-wing, the so-called liberal media, and the astroturf Tea Baggers. With the exception of maybe half of the so-called liberal media, these guys were going to vote for Romney anyway. These are, specifically, the 27%ers for whom even such unapologetic ignoramuses as Bush Jr. and Sarah Palin were considered brilliant. Was there ever a doubt of the vote of this segment?

You know your racist asshole uncle that sincerely believes no one notices whenever he cleverly slips racial epithets in everyday speech? That is the guy we are talking about. The guy who finds Obama’s shameless blackitude unforgivable, and considers every attempt to actually execute the affairs of the executive branch a usurpation of the rights of the white Christian man.

Did Romney really need to shore up these votes? Was that guy who describes every policy of the Obama administration in the language of sexual violence ever going to vote for anyone that was one of those people?

Slavery and Religion

Most people are exposed to American history early in elementary school. I lived all my elementary school years in states that claimed allegiance to the Confederacy: Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. So my introduction to the Civil War was rather sympathetic to the Confederacy. I even read biographies of Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis as a youngster. The places I lived were still steeped in Southern Heritage (that’s what people were, and probably still are, expected to say when referring to racist assholes).

for example:

Q: Why is that guy such a bigoted jerk?

A: Oh, I assure you he’s a really nice guy. He’s just very traditional.

Q: I see. That would explain why his boys are named Nathan, Bedford, and Forrest.

A: Exactly. I’m so glad you understand. So many of you … um … outsiders … uh … have difficulty. But you seem okay.

But I digress…

The South is brimming with churches. Among the most devout Christians are members of the black churches. Even way back then, I asked why. Why is it that these people, many descended from freed slaves, chose to perpetuate the religion surreptitiously forced on their ancestors along with the permanent bondage. When I came to learn more of the African slave trade, I discovered the role played by the Muslims of North Africa and the Middle East. The same problem exists. Why would one choose to reward the gods of his oppressors with his own fealty?

Back from the South Seas

I was away for a while, but I have returned.

So I hear Romney decided to double down on the crazy. Interesting. I wish I were as bereft of human decency as Paul Ryan (R-WI).

A minority such as myself may not be paid as much to transfer national wealth into the pockets of his masters, but it is easier to get the job. For reference, please see laughably inept Sarah Palin (R-AK), the candidate who was his own comic relief, Herman Cain (R-GA), beard to an over-the-top “gay conversion therapist” husband, Michele Bachmann (R-MN), and the kind of man who would take home a stillborn for “family” pictures, Rick Santorum (R-PA). Granted at least one of the last two are clinically insane, but I’m alluding to the fact that that each plays the part of the clown and do so as a part of a minority of sorts. Palin and Bachmann are female, Cain is black, and Santorum is right-of-Pope-Benny-the-Rat-reactionary Catholic.

Ryan may be an evil person who lies with the ease of a psychopath, but he is certainly no buffoon. He is a skilled manipulator that can say exactly the right thing tailored to a very specific audience. The basic premise of the eponymous plan the so-called liberal media dotes on is that earned benefits (don’t forget, people, we have been paying for these for decades, even though we may be too young to use them now) must be raided to fund tax cuts for the very wealthy. And if some old codger asks about the effects, Ryan can make it sound like benefits will increase.

Quote of the Day

On the state of the Republican Party since Reagan, Doghouse Riley had this to say:

Since the wildly successful two terms of the Affable Dim Bulb President in the 1980s, Republicans have nominated clueless Patricians five times, and Senatorial War Heroes Safely In The Pocket Of Big Money twice. The war heroes lost. The idiots won.

I’m not sure how he’s counting, but the point is there. This also explains the existence of GOP walking caricatures Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and James Inhofe (R-OK).
